About Goodrum & Merryweather
Goodrum & Merryweather is an independent and award-winning millinery studio established in Norwich by Alison ‘Ali’ Goodrum.
The emphasis is on small, slow and sustainable. Each hat or headpiece is crafted by Ali, by hand; a one-of-a-kind design, made with care, and filled with personality. She explains:
“I design and make hats of all shapes and sizes. For all manner of people. Of all shapes and sizes. I am an exponent of time-honoured techniques and traditional millinery skills. Hand blocking. Fine finishing. But I am also partial to the occasional hint of whimsy and nonsense. A polka dot pattern. A jaunty angle. ... Topped-with-a-twist is the Goodrum & Merryweather way.”
More About Goodrum & Merryweather
Ali’s professional background as a dress historian and author is a keen influence on her millinery practice and signature style. Her hats often make subtle reference to a story or character unearthed in the archives or may be inspired by a fabric remnant or vintage trim acquired during a trip to the flea market.
Millinery is designated as a heritage craft and Ali enjoys and appreciates its long history, advocating for it, and being part of its close-knit, flourishing, community. She is proud to be a member of the British Millinery Association (BMA) and serves as its Historical Consultant.
She is available to take commissions from private clients, exhibits at regional and national arts venues, and also offers lectures and taster workshops.
