What Coat? What your winter warmer says about your style personality
It’s probably the one item of clothing in our Autumn Winter wardrobe where we truly invest but when we actually look at cost per wear, it comes up the cheapest. Our favourite coats pull together our cold weather looks. And as such they have moved away from being merely functional articles of clothing, but fashion statements which speak to our personal style personality.
There’s a lot you can read about people from their choice of coat. A well-constructed coat can have longevity in our wardrobes and will normally take us through a few seasons, making us recognisable to those who know us well. We have had a look at the styles which may be making an appearance this season and what they can mean to our style personalities.
Modern Classic
A modern classic coat will have a place in a number of wardrobes as they can be styled to suit casual or tailored looks alike. These coats are ones which never really go out of style and stand the test of time and trends. A wool coat or trench is very much a go-to and when purchased in a neutral tone, can be layered for a put-together look, whatever the occasion.
Retro Style
Conjuring ideas of Penny Lane in Almost Famous or Daisy Jones and the Six, the retro-inspired coat makes a seventies statement. We instantly picture someone easy-going and fun-loving who enjoys playing with their fashion and style. Styled with maxi dresses or this-seasons flares, these coats can complete your ensemble so choose one with interesting texture or an injection of colour.
Cool Leather
The staple of every cool girl; a leather coat will never not be in style. Flung over your slip dress with statement sunglasses or with your favourite jeans, this item is a year-round essential. The rock-and-roll iterations of this jacket means that you are sure to evoke your style personality of endless cool. Now the question should be do you go oversized or fitted for this always-on-trend item.
Statement Maximalist
Express ourselves in the warmest way possible; bright colours, statement silhouettes and a playful nature are essentials for the maximalist. If you choose a patterned coat, mix prints with floral dresses or bold tops to embrace your more dramatic side. Have fun with fashion and make your presence known in a daring covering this autumn.
Any Weather Minimalist
The minimalist could be considered more architectural than the modern classic; think more Karl Lagerfeld than Jennifer Anniston. With the introduction of quiet luxury and brands such as The Row, investing in your wardrobe with a more functional aesthetic is the true sign of the minimalist. The purists use staple items in good fabrics with clean lines to create their ultimate wardrobe. Is it neutral? Yes! Is it waterproof? Yes Is it simple? Yes! Then you embrace the back-to-basics approach of the minimalist.
