At Tom's Studio, the focus is on joyful drawing and timeless design. Inspired by a lifelong love for mechanical pencils, Tom recalls the first time his father gifted him a Pentel mechanical pencil as a teenager. The experience instantly sparked a passion for sketching and drawing, and Tom was hooked on the feel of graphite on paper, the forgiving erasability, and the soft grey tones. Not to mention, the satisfying click of the pencil’s mechanism.

It’s this deep appreciation for the perfect pencil that inspired Tom to design his own. He knew it had to meet his high expectations of what makes a great mechanical pencil. Above all, it had to feel exceptional to use.

Tom began by designing a sleek, minimalist form with subtle details that elevate the overall experience. The grip area is made from solid brass, providing a smooth yet tactile feel in the hand while shifting the weight towards the front for precise control and feedback from the page. This carefully considered design ensures that each stroke feels comfortable and effortless.

The main body of the pencil is crafted from lightweight aluminium, offering a perfect balance of durability and weight. The aluminium also allows for a selection of five stunning shades, giving each pencil a personalized touch.

Reliability was a key priority in the design of the mechanism, and Tom made sure it exceeded expectations. The pencil features a robust aluminium plunger paired with a German-made Schmidt DSM mechanism. With a large lead capacity and the satisfying click with each use, this pencil is built to provide a consistent, enjoyable drawing experience.
